Getting your
hub live

Everything it takes, in the order it happens. Most of it is done for you before you see it. The parts that need somebody at your end are marked, and there are fewer of them than you are expecting.

What you get on day one

As soon as we set you up, your hub is live at an address like this, and everything on it works straight away:

https://yourscore.app/p/your-name

Your branding, your games, your leaderboard, your competitions. People can play and save a score without an account. You can share that link anywhere, including in a post or a story, and it will work.

Your admin sits at the same address with /admin on the end. That is where you change colours, switch games on and off, write quizzes and see who played.

https://yourscore.app/p/your-name/admin

Nothing below is required

You can stop reading here and run a perfectly good hub on that link forever. The rest of this page is about making it live somewhere that feels more like yours.

What we need from you

Three things, and none of them are technical.

  1. 1

    Your colours and a logo

A hex code for your main colour and a link to your logo. Anything starting with https works. You can change both yourself afterwards in Settings, as often as you like.
  2. 2

    Which games you want on

Ticked on or off, and reorderable. Changeable at any point, including after you have launched.
  3. 3

One person to be the owner

Somebody at your end who can log in, and who can then add everybody else from the Team screen. They need a YourScore account first, which takes a minute and is free. We cannot grant access to an address that has never signed in, because that would mean handing your admin to whatever was typed on a call.

Putting it on your site

Three ways, in order of how much anybody has to do. You can start on the first and move up whenever you want. Nothing is lost when you move: it is the same hub, the same leaderboard and the same people.

Option A. The link we host

Nothing to do. Put yourscore.app/p/your-name in your navigation, your bio or a post. This is the right answer if your website is hard to change, and it is the fastest way to find out whether your audience plays.

Option B. Your own web address

Something like games.yourclub.com. This is the one we recommend. Your address bar, your branding, no mention of us, and everything works including saving scores.

  1. 1

Tell us the address you want

We add it on our side and issue the certificate. Do this first, because the record you add next has nothing to point at until we have.
  2. 2

Add one record to your DNS

Whoever manages your domain adds this. It takes a few minutes and does not affect your main website in any way.
    TypeNameValue
    CNAMEgamescname.vercel-dns.com

The Name is whatever you want in front of your domain. Use games for games.yourclub.com, or quiz for quiz.yourclub.com.

  3. 3

    Tell us it is in

We confirm it has taken and switch you over. Your old link keeps working, so there is no moment where anything is down.

Why a subdomain rather than a page on your site

The games remember your score, your ranking and your streak, and that memory lives in the browser. When a page sits inside another page, most browsers refuse to keep it, and the strictest are the ones inside Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp, which is where a lot of football audiences arrive from. The symptom is horrible and hard to explain: somebody plays, saves a score, comes back tomorrow and it has forgotten them. Your own subdomain removes the problem completely, and it is still your domain.

Option C. Inside a page you already have

If it has to live at a specific place on your existing site, paste these two lines into an HTML block. This works in Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, Brizy and anything else that lets you add raw HTML.

Paste into an HTML block

<div id="yourscore-games"></div>
<script src="https://yourscore.app/embed.js" data-partner="your-name"></script>

The games appear where the div sits and resize themselves to fit, so there is never a scrollbar inside a scrollbar. Two optional settings:

Add thisTo do this
data-game="goalless"Show one game instead of the whole hub
data-target="my-div-id"Put it in a div you already have

Tell us which addresses are allowed first

Embedding is switched off until you tell us which of your web addresses may do it. Otherwise any website could put your hub inside their page and wrap it in whatever they liked. Send us every address you actually use: https://yourclub.com and https://www.yourclub.com are different as far as a browser is concerned, so we need both.

One thing behaves differently here

When somebody saves a score, the full hub opens in a new tab rather than saving in place. That is deliberate, for the same browser reason as above: a saved score that quietly fails to save is worse than a new tab.

Making it yours

All of this is in your admin under Settings, and none of it needs us.

ScreenWhat it controls
SettingsColours, logo, corner radius, which tabs appear
GamesWhich games are on, what order, and how much content is left
CompetitionsWhat is being played for, and over what period
TeamWho else can log in, and what they can do

Change the colour and look at it

Your accent colour flows through everything: the buttons, the artwork on the game cards, the leaderboard. It is worth setting it and then opening the hub on a phone, because that is where nearly everybody will see it.

Putting something on it

Your hub works out of the box with our games. It gets considerably better when some of the content is yours, because your audience is there for you, not for us.

ScreenWhat you writeHow long it takes
QuizzesYour own questions, four answers eachTen minutes
CategoriesGoalless categories about your club or seasonFifteen minutes
CareersA run of clubs for players your lot watchedFive minutes each

If you have no time this week, the Quizzes screen has a catalogue of quizzes we wrote that you can add in two taps. Adding one makes your own copy, so you can change a question or move the day without asking us.

One rule that matters, on Categories only

A Goalless category has to list every right answer. If somebody types a genuinely correct answer you left off the list, they are told they are wrong and it costs them the most a question can cost, on your hub, with your name on it. The screen checks what it can and asks you to confirm the list is complete before it will publish.

Running a quiz night

A live quiz is you driving the questions by hand while your audience answers along, with your stream above it if you have one. The questions follow you, not a timer.

  1. 1

    Set it up

Live quiz in your admin. Give it a name, pick one of your quizzes, and paste a YouTube link if you are streaming. The link is optional and the quiz runs without it.
  2. 2

    Rehearse it first

Press Rehearse it first and walk the whole thing through on your own. Nobody else can get in, and when you stop, everything you did in practice is deleted. Do this once before your first real night. It is the difference between finding out now and finding out in front of a room.
  3. 3

    Go live

Your screen shows the question with its answer, because you are the one who is supposed to know it. It also shows how many people have answered the question that is up, so you know when to move on, and what the room is saying.
  4. 4

    Afterwards

The night turns into a page people can look back at: the final table, the questions and how many got each one, and the stream if there was one.

Email, and why it waits

When we email your players, it goes out as you, from your own sending address. That means it waits on a few DNS records at your end, the same sort of thing as the address record above.

We could send from ours and have it working in an hour. We do not, because then your supporters would get a message about you from a company they have never heard of, and the first thing they would do is mark it as spam.

What we send you

Once you tell us the address you want to send from, we send you the exact records to add. They are specific to your domain, so there is no point printing them here. Adding them does not affect the email you already send.

Until then

Games, scores, leaderboards, competitions and quiz nights all work normally. What is switched off is anything that emails a player, including the sign in code that lets somebody save a score without typing their details in again. Nothing is lost, it simply starts working the day the records are in.

Your people are yours

Somebody who plays on your hub and saves a score is your audience. You see their name, their email if they gave it, what they played and whether they came back. You can export them and you can write to them.

You do not see anything they have done anywhere else, and nobody else sees anything they did with you. If somebody plays at your hub and at another one, each of you sees your own relationship with them and neither of you sees the other.

Consent is yours too. Somebody agreeing to hear from you is agreeing to hear from you, and it grants nothing to us or to anybody else.

When something looks wrong

What you are seeingWhat it usually is
A game is not on the hubIt is switched off under Games, or it has no content left
A quiz you wrote is not showingIt is still a draft. Publishing is a separate tick from saving
Your own web address does nothingThe DNS record has not taken yet, or we have not been told to switch you over
The embed shows nothingYour web address is not on the allowed list yet
Nobody can be emailedYour sending records are not in yet. See the section above
A live quiz will not startIt has no quiz attached to it yet

Anything that is not on that list, tell us what you were doing and what you saw. We can see what happened on our side, which is usually faster than guessing.
